Xiaomi plans to increase sales in India through its own ecommerce site
China-based smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is planning to increase its sales in India through its own ecommerce site, Mi.com. The move comes after the company’s Mi Store application, which allows people to browse and buy Xiaomi devices, was downloaded over 1 million times since its launch in July 2015.
The company, however, has stated that it has no immediate plans to constrain its offerings with online retail partners Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. At present, over 90 per cent of Xiaomi's products in India are sold online through these partner sites.
Xiaomi's decision to increase sales through its own website is also in line with its plans to locally manufacture the bulk of devices to be sold in India. The company has partnered with Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Foxconn to manufacture smartphones in the country.
